Dayton Waterjet uses CAD/CAM Software to program our cutting equipment. We need a dxf file. A dxf file is a CAD data file format. ex.(myproject.dxf) Most cad programs can save your drawing as a .dxf file because this is the most common CAD data exchange file for 2D cutting applications. There are free programs that are available on the WEB.
If you can not provide us with the .dxf file, a 2D .dwg file or a step-file for 3D designs would be the our second preference. Dayton Waterjet has Solidworks 2012, if you want to send us the .prt file straight out of Solidworks. We can also create the dxf file ourselves from veiwing PDF files, scanned files or just a faxed drawing.
See the photo. The top section is a dxf file. This is what you would see in the CAD program, just lines and arcs. The bottom is the Waterjet cut Granite. The CNC program used to cut this design was made with a .dxf file.
